Oct 2018 - Uniquely Fredericksburg Show

Mirror Finish

I love taking my camera to the Antique Auto Show when it comes to town in June. You have all those shiny interesting surfaces on the vehicles, and Historic Old Town Fredericksburg for a backdrop. Reflections intrigue me, because you can have a picture within a picture, like you see here with the neighboring car reflected twice.

On this photo I chose to convert the photo using the “color sketch” application that is included in my newest digital Nikon camera. It enabled me to make the reflections more clear and obvious. I also saturated the color for the same reason.

One difficulty with photographing reflections such as this one, is trying to figure out how to hide the photographer, if possible. I am in the photo, but hopefully not so readily obvious!

Darbytown Door Details

I seem to be drawn to subjects with a lot of texture. In this one there is the peeling paint, and the rough wood grain. I also like the contrast of the older weathered and painted over door hardware side by side with the shiny newer padlock. This old door is on what is left of an old brick building in Darbytown, just around the corner from the train station. There is talk of building condos there, so this door probably won't be around much longer.
