Rimrock Vista

On a cross country trip in 2018 we spent a day on the “Island in the Sky” at Canyonlands National Park. Driving across the mesa was not very interesting, but there were so many spectacular views from the rim, that it was hard to choose a favorite. This scene was captured when the afternoon sun was getting low enough in the sky to add some nice shadows to the scene. The clouds were probably harbingers of Tropical Storm Rosa which went through the area after we headed north.

Desert Deserted

After leaving Canyonlands, we passed through a portion of Capitol Reef National Park. On the way there I found the ruins of an old stone house. I was determined to get the colorful mesa in the scene of at least one of my photos, and this was the result.

This is a “swipe” which is accomplished by moving the camera in one direction using a slow shutter speed. This one was take much closer to home, at Caledon State Park.
